Personality

Respectful
“Of course, sir!”
Dodger is one of those horses that will practically bow to the ground to his superiors. He prides himself in his respectful upbringing, knowing that a little bit of respect goes a long way. He very rarely shows any disrespect to any horse. Unless, of course, they are on his bad side.

Gutsy
“So what? I can do that. And easily, too.”
Dodger is often a very gutsy and courageous horse, even if he really shouldn’t be. Anything someone else can or can’t do, he is certain that he can do it. He feels almost invincible sometimes, and it can kind of give him the indication of being cocky, which, at times, he can be.

Outspoken
“That isn’t right. Not at all!”
Though respectful, Dodger does have a problem holding his tongue. He is victim to many open mouth - insert hoof moments. If something isn’t right, he will tell you. If something looks bad, he will tell you. If something looks good, he will tell you. If you are out of your mind, he will also absolutely tell you. Dodger is not quite rude about it, but some take his lack of tact as being rude when he’s really just speaking his mind with no intention of being rude. His role as a guard has helped to put a hoof in his mouth however and finally put up some filters on the stallion's mindset.

Superstitious/Religious
“Argus is the one who has given us this wonderful place. I will not let myself or any other horse forget that.”
Dodger is very religious and faithful in his beliefs to Argus. He prays daily in the comfort of his own home to a small shrine. He does what he can to hopefully find favor with the Arcane god. Along with this, he shares the belief of fear associated with Ignacio, kirins, and fire. He despises anything to do with those things. He also feels very supersitious, assuming them to be true in hope that that will also increase his favor with Argus.

Impulsive
“I volunteer!”
Dodger often finds himself impulsively volunteering for different deeds, especially in his job for the High King or for local priests and priestesses. He doesn’t quite think twice about anything and deals with the consequences later. It does happen that he bites off a lot more he can chew, but he does his best to do what he committed to do.

Short Tempered
“Excuse me?!”
Though a rather calm and solemn horse, if one small thing sets Dodger off, he quickly retaliates angrily and irritably. Many critique his short temper, and he always snorts back that they are the ones who do what makes him angry and that it isn’t his own fault. He never seems to blame himself, either.

Independent
“No, I am completely qualified to do this on my own.”
Dodger is a somewhat proud and a very independent stallion. He doesn’t exactly need a mare, but if one ever caught his eye and stole his heart he would be totally ok with it. But he never likes having help with tasks. He wants to do things himself and always does them by himself. Should one challenge this, he will be quite irritable, triggering his short temper.

Loyal
“Anything for you and the rest of the royal family!”
Dodger is a very loyal horse, and is very loyal to his family, few friends, and of course his Royal employers. He will often make rash and impulsive decisions that he truly cannot handle alone to complete alone all for favor and to please. He does it all out of loyalty, however. He just has his ways. This loyalty extends farther into Breim with every day.

Observant
“I have noticed that the herd seems restless about something. I’m curious as to what it may be.”
As a guide, Dodger is very perceptive as to the herd’s well being. He often makes his rounds on his own, trying to see whether or not there is a problem to be assessed and if it should be brought to Royal attention. His loyalty to the herd truly shows through his work and observations, and he hopes to one day be able to make a change for his herd.

Otherwise Friendly
“Allow me to clarify. I am outspoken, but I am not unfriendly.”
Dodger calls himself otherwise friendly and in his own way he is. He enjoys the hustle and bustle of the capital city and absolutely and wholeheartedly enjoys his job. He just is a bit outspoken and proud, and if one can handle it, he is willing to befriend that horse.

Relationships/Opinions:

Family is his main priority. He does not have as many friends as what people would believe, but his family is his rock, and he has absolute trust and support in them. He always sends some of his pay home to help out and to aid in his twin siblings' own future endeavors.

He is very faithful in Argus, but prefers to keep a low-key attitude about it all and pray in the silence and peace in his own home. He also reveres Ayla and has respect for Cascade and Kaia, like most Breimians. He was taught from a young age to respect all gods, but fear Ignacio, and these beliefs carried over into his adult life.

He is rather oriented around the Old Generation's way of thinking, but occasionally admits to liking some New Generation customs, finding them interesting. Occasionally he considers himself more moderate, but picks Old Generation if he has to.

History

Dodger had a rather ideal foalhood as compared to most horses in the Breim Herd. He was born to Apollo, an appaloosa stallion, and Dahlia, a dark thoroughbred mare, a happily married couple of Magi with the beliefs of the Old Generation etched deep into their hearts and souls settled a little further outside of Nariah than most Magi families. Proud Breim natives, they based their beliefs in Argus, and taught their children from a young age about the deity as well as moral values of modesty and what it means to be part of something bigger than themselves, like the community that made the Breim Herd what it was. The oldest of three foals by five years, himself and fraternal twins Dante and Damara, Dodger was the typical “big brother” figure, looking after his siblings and keeping them out of trouble when their parents were not around. Of course the rest of the Old Generation aided the young colt when he wanted to play with friends of his own or when he just couldn’t get the filly and colt to listen to him. But he was always reassured, and he always knew he had help in the community.

As he grew into a teenager, his parents began planning for his future as tradition told, and they seemed to be taking it a little to the extreme for their eldest son, excited they would have another wonderful Magi following in their footsteps. Dodger had only known such life, and had been alright with it for the longest time, but as the colt was schooled in the art of not only religion, but also in the history and hierarchy of the herd he called home and family, the idea of living the life of a simple Magi was immediately gone. He felt childish at times to believe that his imagination was filled of the capital city Nariah and the beautiful palaces of the Royal Family and High King, ruling over the entire Breim Herd with the best interest of the people in mind.  And inherently in his mind, he wanted to do right by his family and Herd and aid the horses he shared this land with, and having a tie to the Royal Family could be more influential than many things.

Through his schooling he learned of different jobs that could be held near the family, and though the idea of being a King’s Guide appealed to him and set him alive in amazement, he had to be realistic. Deciding to start out small, he looked into the idea of becoming a member of The Help, the Royal family’s personal arsenal of everything from servants to teachers.

Upon having made his own decision for his future, Dodger trotted home with glee and giddiness at the idea of his future and all the possibilities that could come with it, and he proudly gathered his family to tell them of his decision. His younger siblings pranced and frolicked with happiness, sharing it with their younger brother, while his parents just gave sad smiles, but hints of pride still glittered in their eyes as no job was going to keep them from loving their son for making his own choices.

But now the problem was finding a way to get the job.

The first thing he decided to do was keep educating himself and grabbing any knowledge a young and ambitious horse would want to know. He offered assistance to literally ANYONE who looked like they needed it, and would often wander into surrounding areas to do so. He introduced himself to all the horses he helped, having been given the advice by his teachers while in school that respect and knowing others could go a long way. He prayed hard every night in the comfort of his own room to Argus for fortune and blessing with a job in the city. And one day it paid off when a representative from Nariah noted the diligent work the appaloosa cross exhibited, and his words relayed back to some accomplices with ties in all the right places. A few weeks later, the representative, a gray stallion who did not reveal his name, approached Dodger as he finished a task for a newlywed couple’s home, putting the final touches on some cleaning of the outside, with a letter strapped in saddlebags on his back. And when Dodger read the letter, his eyes lit up when it stated that there was an opening among the ranks of the Help and that the author of the letter had taken notice in the young stallion’s hard work around the communities of Breim, and the position was offered.

Dodger was 20 on the day he left home, and his family threw a celebration to congratulate him on his future success. Though small scale like a typical Old Generation gathering, many other horses gathered to bid good luck to the stallion and to reassure him that he was always there when he was needed. And as he moved into his new home in the capital city, he thanked Argus for getting him thus far.

Dodger is well-rounded in the tasks performed by the help. Though primarily enjoying being a teacher or messenger, he has filled in for both manual labor-heavy jobs and more respected jobs over the course of his time. He currently still hopes to one day be in the running for King’s Guide, but starting off small he felt was an incredible decision, and he has faith that all of his work would pay off, and until then and beyond he was going to be an asset to his herd. He has no intention to rule over the Breim Herd one day.  He just wants to make life as great as it can possibly be. And all the while, he still visits his family and vice versa, and he is always greeted with love and sent off with prayers of safe travels of his future to come.

:new: CURRENTLY :new:

Now a guard, Dodger takes pride in his title, but an adjustment it was for his mindset. His outspokenness had been an issue with him since foalhood, and being put into his new rank has given him a test: tolerate things much better. He currently enjoys his job, feeling as if he's able to serve his Herd better. A chance to prove himself and improve his attitude, the new role has strengthened his loyalty not only to the royals, but to all of Breim itself.
